What is FTP?

This article explains the acronym FTP and it's meaning.

This article applies to Shared Hosting and Reseller accounts and Dedicated Servers.

The process by which files are transferred to the web server is called FTP. This acronym stands for File Transfer Protocol. You can use FTP to exchange files between computer accounts, to transfer files between an account and a desktop computer.

A FTP account can be accessed using a graphical FTP client, a web browser such as Internet Explorer, or through the command line. Graphical FTP software simplifies file transfers by allowing you to drag and drop files between your local computer and the remote FTP server.

Customers with a Donhost hosting account have unlimited access to their web space through an in-built FTP account.
