How can I set reverse DNS on my dedicated server IP addresses?

This article explains how to configure a reverse DNS host name on an IP address assigned to your dedicated server.

This article applies to Dedicated Servers.

DNS (Domain Name System) is used to translate easy to remember host names, such as www.donhost.co.uk, into the numerical IP address on which Internet routing is based. Reverse DNS does the opposite of this, resolving a numerical IP address into a text host name.

It is possible therefore to set a Reverse DNS record on any IP address that has been assigned to your dedicated server.

1

Login to your Donhost control panel.

2

Click Servers from the navigation bar.

3

Click Reverse DNS.

The reverse DNS entries for each of your IP addresses along with the server they are assigned to are shown on the resulting page.

4

Edit the text field corresponding to the IP address you wish to set Reverse DNS for with the required text host name.

5

Click Update DNS to modify your reverse DNS settings.

Please note: Changes may take up to 72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet.
