This article explains how to perform a remote power cycle of your dedicated server in the event that it is inaccessible.
This article applies to Dedicated Servers.
In circumstances where remote administrative access to your server is unavailable, you may utilise the server reboot facility to instantly initiate a hard reboot of the hardware.
Please note: The server operating system should be shut down before turning off the server's power supply. In the case of a reboot, it is always better to initiate a soft reboot from the administrative interface (e.g. SSH, Terminal Services, PCAnywhere) of the server operating system.
Login to your Donhost control panel.
Click the Servers link from the navigation bar.
The status of the power outlet for your server or servers is shown on the resulting page.
Click the View link corresponding to the desired dedicated server.
The current status of the power outlet is shown on the resulting page. The actions available for an outlet depend on it's current status, however the results of all actions are listed below:
On – The power outlet will be immediately powered on.
Off – The power outlet will be immediately powered off.
Cycle – The power outlet will be powered off for 5 seconds, and then powered back on.
Select the desired option to perform the power action.
Important: Only initiate a hard reboot using this facility as a last resort when the server will not respond to soft reboot requests through the operating system administrative interface. We cannot be held responsible for any data loss or corruption, or hardware damage which may result through the use of this facility.
